The Platinum Mile is a targeted Delivery-Execution Methodology currently being researched and developed by 2MpS Ltd for Supply Chain Management transformation…
Failure to Change
For decades, companies have been attempting to transform themselves through traditional Process Improvement models and structured programmes of work with the intention to change the way they do business. They are led, sorry, let’s make that ‘governed‘ through change, with time-proven methods of conducting the change. However, these ‘old world’ techniques have only proven to fail over time, or at best, ‘succeed through sacrificial failure’. This sour yet salient fact is resonated year and year again through project statistics and isn’t showing any sign of improving.

This blatant misalignment of effort to invoke change is nothing more than a plague to organisations. Given the track history of project failure, there seems to be little choice but to inflate the budget of such programmes to justify their existence. An approach which is simply counterintuitive.
A Target-Centric Solution
Clearly, managers and people involved in such activity are becoming lost, and who can blame them? The customer-facing coal face is consistently changing for starters, and whilst anticipating certain failure rates within any given project, there is little any Project Manager can do other than to plan for execution by using plans that have recently failed.
To reduce, and possibly prevent, business transformation efforts being lost, a new set of disciplines and execution methods are required. The Platinum Mile aims to provide this through a targeted approach to delivering results. A solution designed to consistently realign work efforts of those enabling the change with the ability to adjust to the changing coalface imposed by the evolving customer coalface.
Such a solution that at first may appear risky, or possibly strenuous to apply in practice, but first appearances rarely pan out to be truth. Ironically the enabling factor to this solution has always been available to everybody, lying in plain view of anyone involved in process improvement…
The Platinum Standard
Best Practice Process Improvement lacks the momentum to effectively transform businesses.
The gold standard of project management is redundant and fails on a consistent basis.
Existing techniques, methodologies, and standards to invoke change will deliver mediocre results and continue to so for the foreseeable future. In a world where waste and excess is becoming more of a social issue, this approach is sadly lacking appeal.
Whenever standards are concerned, “Gold” is typically expressed as being the very best. However, Gold is weak, soft, and typically cheap when compared to Platinum.
Platinum is rarer, denser, stronger, lighter, purer and leaner than Gold. It is a far superior standard to aspire to when compared to it’s inferior Gold companion.
